I take it a wmv file is a movie. Did you use the (very new BTW) creation form at the top of this page?
http://www.archive.org/contribute.php

The form is for "Create and upload a new movie or book".
http://www.archive.org/create/

If so, what was the identifier of the item you created?

Diana,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

As for your question - yes I did.

/itoldyouso/over.wmv is the naming convention used. Granted I didn't name my file the same name but I don't think that should be a problem. Should it?

After it was finished (transferring over via ftp), I clicked on the CLICK_HERE_WHEN_DONE.htm, did a search, but unfortunately file doesn't come up.

ok, i found your item,
it was behaving on the server like:
1) nothing got FTP uploaded
2) the CLICK_HERE_WHEN_DONE.htm file didn't get clicked (and thus the item didn't get "checked in")

i'm not sure what happened.

you can try creating a new item with a slightly different name and try again?

oh, and the naming convention doesn't matter,
so long as the uploads go to the subdir
of the identifier name that you chose.
the subdir will be automatically created for you.
so all you have to do is upload files into it
(and it will also do "filename legal character" checking
for you item files, too).

OK... so far I've complied to everything mentioned yet when I do a search on my file name (over.wmv), my file isn't returned. (There's another one with the same name returned but not mine.)

What am I missing.

(Again... thanks so much to everyone who has and will take the time to address my question.)

hey!
Sorry i cant be no help in the initial question, but since this seems to be a newB-friendly thread here, I`d like to put forward another NewB-Question :-)
I have successfully created an identifier and uploaded about 25 mp3s to it. Somewhere in the process it says that you have 48hours to complete uploading, but may add further items to this identifier at a later time.
Now, I`ve been looking all over for a way to update my collection and add some more tunes, but couldn`t find a way!! I`d be very glad if somebody could give me a hint there! I did underestand I`d be free to just create selection II, but since I really like the opportunity to download ALL my audio as one ZIP-file, I`d like to put it all under the same identifier so it comes out like that :-)

Sorry for my bad english and thanks to anyone who got nerve and time to answer this!!
best wishes from Flowsdorf, Germany
Dick

hi there,

once your item details page can be seen (ie: item is setup nicely), look towards the bottom of the left-hand columns for "Edit item" link!
